The year is 1991 and you are in America. The United States is leading operation Desert Storm in Kuwait. The USSR ceases to be a thing. A gallon of unleaded gasoline costs $1.15 and the average annual household income is about $30,000.
Fortunately for you though, the 1980s treated you well and you were wise enough to invest in some new fangled computer company Micro-something. You have enough cash to buy any new car in the model year 1991, which you need because your dream ride from the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was recently totaled. You can't believe your bad luck because you also lost your dream ride from the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! edition too.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
You get to choose any new car from model year 1991. But only one car and this will be your daily driver for the next few years. Unfortunately, this car is eventually stolen and you forget to renew your insurance, so there is no chance to resell or profit from insurance. This is a car to use and enjoy, then it's gone. What do you choose?
I'd stroll into my local Ferrari dealer and buy a 1991 Ferrari F40. 1991 is the next to the last year for the F40, and includes some minor updates that were done to the car. The last supercar from the Enzo Ferrari era, the F40 may be the truest expression of Ferrari racing in a street car. I'd daily drive it as long as I could.
Choose wisely!

And you can still buy a brand new Civic Si hatchback with no airbags.

Those were the days when you would throw your change under the passenger floormat, and after a week or so, know that you would always have enough gas money to get home.

True, but it had the most annoying seat belt in the world that would fail to function well after slamming the door a few times.... God was that a great winter beater though.

You coludn't just stroll into a Ferrari dealer and buy an F40. You had to be a previous customer (or famous) to have the privilege.

I've heard that, but also that they became pretty available especially in later years. Ferrari made a lot of them over the years, relative to other supercars. I think by 1991 you could get one fairly easily.

(Looks around breaths a sigh of relief no one has yet said Miata)
I being a good ol' red blooded American I would likely have fallen in love with the Viper and therefore bought that. Don't forget in 91 the model year would be 92 and the first year for the Viper.

ah ok, maybe that was only the first couple of years. I know today even a lot of celebs buy used because they can't get on the list for new ones. Who would of thought you could sell as many $200k+ cars as you could build.

That would tempting. But if we are looking at calendar year 1991 (model year 1992) then I'm going with a McLaren F1!

Did yours have the automatic seatbelts like the Escort, and Eclipse, and 240sx... why did any one think these were a good idea?

If you didn't know what Microsoft was by '91, then you were most definitely not in the loop.

I saw on Australian TV that while yes, you can daily drive a Ferrari, in the end you'll be disappointed.

1991 is a rubbish year. No AM Vantage yet, not even the 6.3 Conversion kit. :(
Guess i'll have to stick with one of these.

An F40 would be a horrible daily driver. As such, given the daily driver requirement, I'd probably go with either a Porsche 964 Turbo:
...or a Mercedes 500E (because luxury AND Porsche ):
..or a Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R Nismo Evolution (JDM markets love tacking words on, don't they?):
...or something I'm unaware of because I wasn't old enough to drive in 1991. :)

(My) E34 M5 from 1991! Classy, understated, and quick even by today's standards. Plus you can fit a few ladies with 90's shoulder pads. What's not to love?

Good choice. Would certainly be fun while you had it.

I considered that, and it certainly makes a lot of sense. But given a choice between an M5 and an F40, well...

Weren't the TVR Griffith & NSX made then? I'd drive the heck out of those 2 before it got stolen. Yeah Lamborghini and Ferrari had some cool cars then but I'm thinking more "out on the fringe"
